Pragya is a global family of coordinated, independently registered non-profit development organisations committed to poverty relief, environmental protection, access to healthcare and education, gender equality, social justice and disaster management. Established in the global south in 1995, Pragya secures transformational change at the grassroots, focusing on disenfranchised populations often living in remote and marginalised regions of the world that are left behind in the development process.

‘Pragya’ means knowledge, learning and wisdom leading to realisation. Living up to our name, we work tirelessly to gain insight into the communities with which we collaborate, applying our learning and experiences to develop innovative, effective and comprehensive development solutions to the unique challenges facing neglected peoples struggling to thrive in harsh environments on the margins of society.

Pragya takes a practical and culturally sensitive and ecologically sustainable approach to development. Our work is grounded in long-term community partnerships where communities engage in creating the change they want to see, and ensure that their environment is protected. Working through a combination of grassroots initiatives, scientific and policy research, and advocacy at national and international levels, Pragya enhances the capacities of individuals, communities and institutions to create more humane, equitable and sustainable societies
